About · Two of us

A studio of two.

We are two people who used to work for other people. Now we work with each other, and occasionally for someone who asks nicely. Two Slow People is Karan Baweja and Surendra Chaplot — and the work we make together.

Why now

We want to do this ourselves.

There is an opportunity around AI right now, and the temptation is to disappear into a larger consultancy and lean on someone else's brand. We took the other path. We want to stay close to the building — to keep the agency that comes from making the thing yourself.

Working as two means we can move quickly when we want to and slowly when we should. It also means every piece of work we ship has both of our names on it — which is a useful constraint.

What we believe

Four things, not in order.

  • Deliver value without fuss. The work either makes a real difference to your business or it doesn't — and we'd rather know which sooner than later. We don't pad. We don't dress things up.

  • Integrity, before anything. We will tell you when something we built isn't working, and we will tell you when something you asked for is the wrong thing. The shorter conversation, both times.

  • High agency, on purpose. We don't wait for permission. If a system needs a piece we hadn't planned for, we build it. If a tool is wrong for the job, we say so.

  • Build useful things only. No software for software's sake. If a problem can be solved by a conversation, a checklist, or a different process — that is what we'll suggest first.

Where we draw a line

We won't help everyone.

There are businesses we won't work with — gambling and betting; companies whose values cross a line we wouldn't cross ourselves; anything we'd be embarrassed to explain to our families. We say this out loud because we'd rather not have the awkward conversation later.

The two of us

Karan and Surendra.

Karan Baweja

Most recently at Cosmos Video

Building social spaces that brought people together at Cosmos Video in London. Background in robotics and embedded-systems research — published with IEEE and IHCI. London Business School. Founder's Award from Deloitte. Wayra UK alum, one of twenty from a hundred and seventy applicants.

Surendra Chaplot

Currently at Wise

Working on money without borders at Wise. Co-founded 21Fools — a magazine that became a greeting-card company that became a sustainable-products one. Made a Bollywood film in 2009 he calls "really silly," is reading a book from every country, and takes more photographs than is strictly reasonable. Mumbai, Delhi, Jakarta, Singapore — Udaipur is home.

Colophon

Made slowly, on purpose.

Set in Plus Jakarta Sans throughout. The dot pair is borrowed from the wordmark — two stacked circles, one a little smaller. The palette is Maple Stream — washi, paper, sumi, and a maple-rust accent we use sparingly. The site is hand-built and quietly maintained.
